The “Azores Smart Islands” project, developed by mobinteg, is the winner of the APDC Cities and Territories of the Future Award in the “Sustainability, Circular Economy and Decarbonization” category. A significant milestone in the promotion of smart tourism, now validated by APDC.
For mobinteg, this distinction represents not only recognition of the team’s hard work and dedication, but also encouragement to continue innovating and collaborating with local communities to implement solutions that promote smart tourism.
“We are very proud to see the ‘Azores Smart Islands’ project recognized by APDC. Winning this award, particularly in this category, is a testament to our commitment to developing solutions that not only boost sustainability, but also promote economic growth and the social inclusion of communities,” says Pedro Miguel Geraldes, co-founder and managing partner of mobinteg.
The Cities and Territories of the Future Award is the prize given by APDC to pioneering technology-based projects and solutions that make cities and territories more liveable, sustainable and economically viable spaces.
Azores Smart Islands represents one of the largest and most ambitious smart tourism projects in Europe, providing all users with dozens of routes and hundreds of points of interest spread across the 9 islands and the 19 Azorean municipalities, as well as more than 50 sources of news and events, updated in real time.
The project, supported by the SMIITY platform, was implemented by mobinteg, in partnership with local companies (GlobalEda and Zona de Ideias), and was promoted by local development associations – GRATER, Adeliaçor, ARDE and ASDEPR – in conjunction with the municipalities of the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
Azores Smart Islands is now available for public use and can be downloaded for free from the App Store and Google Play.
